Understanding the Two Concepts

Reading the Qur’an is recognizing and pronouncing the words correctly. It is the foundation of all Quranic learning. Reciting the Qur’an, on the other hand, is more than reading—it involves rhythm, flow, proper Tajweed, and most importantly, a connection with the meanings.

Reading: The First Step

When a student begins, the goal is to read each word correctly. This includes:

  • Recognizing Arabic letters
  • Joining letters and words
  • Pronouncing with correct makharij (articulation points)
  • Applying basic Tajweed rules

This step builds accuracy and confidence.
